Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is “devotion” to the person of Jesus Christ symbolized by His Heart as the Lord who loves us.  Jesus desire and asked for devotion to His Sacred Heart and that we return love for love.  The Catholic Church approved and recommended the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

In the 1673-1675 culmination of the apparitions of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary of Alacoque, a humble French Nun of the order of the visitation of our Lady, Jesus showing His Sacred Heart to her said,  “Behold the Heart which has so loved men that it has spared nothing, even to exhausting and consuming itself, in order to testify its love, and in return, I receive from the greater part only ingratitude, by their irreverence and sacrilege and by the coldness and contempt they have for Me in this Sacrament of Love.  But what I feel most keenly is that it is the hearts which consecrated to Me, that treat Me thus … “

Therefore, Jesus asked for special devotion to His Sacred Heart, including:

  • That He be honored in the symbol of His Sacred Heart of flesh;
  • Celebration of the Feast Day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
  • Communion on the First Fridays of the Month;
  • Frequent reception of the Holy Communion;
  • Keeping the Holy Hour;
  • That acts of reparations be made to His Sacred Heart in order to make amends for the indignities heaped on It at the Altar.

Jesus promised many blessings to those who carry out this devotion and to those who spread the devotion.

In keeping with the request and mandate of our Lord Jesus Christ, our prayer group – The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary Prayer Group come together every Wednesday immediately following the evening Mass to return love for love using special devotional prayers to:

  • Honor, hail and console the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary;
  • Adore Jesus;
  • Make reparations for the irreverence, sacrileges, coldness, contempt heaped on Jesus in the Sacrament of Love and indignities which It receives during exposition at altars;
  • Read Scripture
  • Intercessory Prayer
  • Praise and Worship

We also observe the following Feast and periods: Celebration of the Feast Day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on its moveable dates;    Attend Mass on First Fridays and Saturdays.

Brief History of our Origin at St. Leo Parish

Dating back to the 1960s we existed as Wednesday Prayer Group.  Later it evolved as Glory & Praise Prayer Group engulfing several devotions.  Today, as the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary Prayer Group, we are exclusively focused on devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary since July 9th 2014.   We are finally Home.

“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11: 28-30).
